Import regulations

Valid travel documents

When bringing taxable goods, animals, etc., into the country, please be sure you have all the necessary travel documents and receipts.


Beware of forgeries!

It is against the law to bring in forgeries and pirated copies of goods of any kind, including for personal use. Detected forgeries will be confiscated and destroyed.


Limits per person

The following limits apply per person for goods brought into the country for personal use or as gifts:


Alcoholic beverages

Up to 15% volume 2 litres and
over 15% volume 1 litre


Cigarettes and tobacco goods

Cigarettes: 200 or
Cigars: 50 or
Loose tobacco: 250 grams
Cigarette papers: 200 pieces

Goods worth more than CHF 300 must be declared

Goods other than those listed above may be brought in tax free up to a value of CHF 300 per person per day. If the total value exceeds CHf 300, all the goods are subject to import duty.

No cash restrictions

No import or export restriction apply in Switzerland with respect to cash. However, cross-border cash transfers are regulated by law (SR 631.052).

Foodstuffs of animal origin

The import of all foodstuffs of animal from non EU and non-EFTA countries by travellers is prohibited.
