In 2008, a variety of major construction projects were initiated at Zurich Airport. And to meet the changing requirements relating to security and passport controls, major sections of the passenger areas will also have to be altered or expanded in 2009. We are expanding the existing infrastructure in response to the constantly increasing passenger volume and rapidly growing demands.
Switzerland officially implemented the Schengen Agreement in December 2008. This simplifies passport controls for passengers travelling between Switzerland and other Schengen member states. The purpose is to provide the necessary infrastructure to make the airport even more convenient for passengers and visitors.
The range of services and facilities at Zurich Airport is constantly expanding. For example, the existing passage between Arrival/Departure 1 and Airport Center is currently undergoing alteration and will soon house new shops and services.
