The Swiss Museum of Transport shows the development of transport and mobility on road, rail and water as well as in the air and space plus modern communication worlds in a tangible, exciting and diverse way.
Over 3000 objects covering an exhibition area of some 20,000 m² and unique attractions such as the IMAX Theatre, Planetarium, Swissarena and Gotthard Tunnel Show, not to mention the Hans Erni Museum, enrich a visit to the Swiss Museum of Transport and turn it into a memorable experience.
In 2009, Switzerland’s most popular museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark this anniversary year, a number of buildings and exhibitions are being rebuilt, refurbished and made more attractive.
In November 2008, the new FutureCom entrance building with the "Media-Factory" communications exhibition, two new restaurants, museum shop and state-of-the-art conference centre came into operation.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the museum’s opening at the end of June 2009, a new Road Transport Hall (2,000 m² exhibition area with interactive car theatre, display store, theme islands, display workshop etc.), the multifunctional open air arena with children’s traffic training area and road-building arena as well as the new document centre are being opened.
