Museum of Transport

The Swiss Museum of Transport shows the development of transport and mobility on road, rail and water as well as in the air and space plus modern communication worlds in a tangible, exciting and diverse way.

Over 3000 objects covering an exhibition area of some 20,000 m² and unique attractions such as the IMAX Theatre, Planetarium, Swissarena and Gotthard Tunnel Show, not to mention the Hans Erni Museum, enrich a visit to the Swiss Museum of Transport and turn it into a memorable experience.

In 2009, Switzerland’s most popular museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark this anniversary year, a number of buildings and exhibitions are being rebuilt, refurbished and made more attractive.

In November 2008, the new FutureCom entrance building with the "Media-Factory" communications exhibition, two new restaurants, museum shop and state-of-the-art conference centre came into operation.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the museum’s opening at the end of June 2009, a new Road Transport Hall (2,000 m² exhibition area with interactive car theatre, display store, theme islands, display workshop etc.), the multifunctional open air arena with children’s traffic training area and road-building arena as well as the new document centre are being opened.
