01.11.2008 The closure of the spectators’ terrace at Dock B means that a major attraction for visitors of all ages will no longer be available. Dock B is to be completely reconstructed and reopened by spring 2011. Guided tours will continue to take place in the
meantime. The spectators’ terrace on Dock E will remain open.

24.10.2008 A variety of new facilities are handed over for operation in time for the changeover to the winter 2008 flight plan: the new arrivals hall, the altered “Grüezi B” area, a new connecting corridor, and new bus gates B01 to B10, with tax and duty-free shop
and Bar 110. This new infrastructure is part of the “Zurich 2010” construction project encompassing the alterations associated with the introduction of the Schengen Agreement.

22.10.2008 Small private plane (Cirrus SR22) crashes on approach to runway 14. Schutz & Rettung Zurich rescue services reach the site immediately, but unfortunately the accident claims three lives.

24.05.2008 Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) officially opens for operation. After a 35-month construction phase, the first aircraft are handled at the new international airport in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), southern India. Opening proceeds smoothly and represents the start of a new era of privately operated airports in India.

6.11.2006 Introduction of new regulations governing the carriage of liquids in hand luggage on flights from Switzerland. From now on, only very limited quantities of liquids are permitted in hand luggage. Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) implements the new regulations of the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) by the specified deadline.

28.10.2006 In line with the modified approach procedure, the instrument landing system for runway 28 (landings from the east) is handed over for operation.

2.10.2006 Commencement of the construction of a new road bridge from the motorway exit to the approach lanes and multi-storey car park 6, thus permitting access to the airport without having to cross the Glattalbahn tram line.

30.9.2006 Easing of the security regulations for flights to the USA, which had been imposed following the thwarted terrorist attacks in London. Liquids are now permitted on USA flights again.

2.6.2006 Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) decorates the fuselage of an Avro RJ 100 (Jumbolino) operated by Swiss with a highly original design depicting mountain farmers leaving Airport Shopping and making their way to the Alps. The striking image and slogan (“Zurich Airport - Shopping Paradise”) decorating the Jumbolino’s fuselage draw attention to the attractiveness of the shopping facilities at Zurich Airport.

18.4.2006 Zurich Airport receives the 2006 “Excellence Cargo Award” from “Air Cargo World” magazine in the category “European airports with an annual cargo volume below 500,000 tonnes”. Zurich is placed third in the survey.

6.3.2006 In this year's "Airport Service Excellence Awards", Zurich Airport is voted second best airport in Europe. This award is especially significant for airports since it is the outcome of a detailed analysis of strengths and weaknesses relating to passenger satisfaction.

6.2.2006 Zurich Airport named leading European civil aviation hub in terms of reliability of baggage transport. A study conducted by the Association of European Airlines (AEA) shows that, in comparison with other hubs, Zurich experienced the fewest irregularities in the area of baggage transport.

27.11.2005 Swiss electorate rejects the proposed abolition of Sunday trading. In the run-up to this referendum, Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) had vigorously campaigned in favour of maintaining Sunday trading.

22.11.2005 The fire brigade switchboard operated by Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) at Zurich Airport now also takes calls that were previously diverted to the operations centre in Winterthur.

12.8.2005 The punctuality rate at Zurich Airport increases sharply in the second quarter, as a result of which ZRH moves up the European ladder from 25th to 16th place. As before, the main reason for delays is the unilateral German ordinance.
