Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) wins the bid on an operating contract for the international airport "El Dorado" of Bogotá, Columbia. 650 million USD will be invested into the enlargement and modernisation of the airport within the next few years.
The syndicate of Columbian and Chilean concessionaires and Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) managed to prevail over serious international competitors from Columbia, Argentina, Germany and China. As part of the winning consortium, Unique will be in charge of operation for this major Latin American airport and holds a minor stake in the operating company. 650 million USD will be invested into the enlargement and modernisation of the airport within the next few years. The Financing is mainly provided for by a local consortium of banks.
The upgrading of the international airport "El Dorado“ is one of the largest Columbian infrastructure projects. The airport, which currently operates at its capacity limits, is one of the most important traffic hubs in Latin America. 8 million annual passengers make it the third largest passenger airport, 420’000 tons of freight the largest cargo airport of South America.
In addition to its core business in Zurich, Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) focuses on the two international markets of India and Latin America. In India (Bangalore) the construction of a brand new airport is on the way since 1st July 2005. In Latin America Unique operates three Chilean regional airports, four international Honduran airports and the international airport on Isla de Margarita in Porlamar, Venezuela.
