In order to fulfil its obligations in accordance with its environmental guidelines, the Zurich Airport operates a comprehensive environmental management programme. It has been certified in line with the international ISO 14001:2004 standard since 2001.
Systematic data management provides key figures which illustrate the environmental situation and how it evolves.
Drawing on these key figures, together with legal and official requirements and the environmental guidelines, environmental portfolios are compiled for the individual business divisions and measures are planned. The implementation and impact of these measures is supervised and monitored.
Construction projects are subject to environmental project management under which the projects are evaluated in terms of their ecological impact, not only during the construction phase but also with regard to their subsequent usage, and receive environmental construction supervision. The environmental regulations for construction projects stipulated by Zurich Airport are an integral part of the tender terms and construction contracts and are generally regarded as the environmental standard for the implementation phase. These regulations can be defined in more detail depending on the project.
