New Dock B

The renovation of Dock B is a turnkey project for reinforcing Zurich Airport’s credentials as a quality airport following implementation of the Schengen Agreement. It is also the most complex sub-project of “Zürich 2010”. The new Dock B will improve the convenience and user-friendliness of Zurich Airport.

The existing load-bearing structure of the old Dock, which was commissioned in 1975 and dismantled in 2009, is being used for the new-build. Construction began in October 2010 and is currently in the development phase. At the same time as the renovation of Dock B is taking place, the apron adjoining the Dock is also being extensively renovated and a dual taxiway built at the top of the Dock. This will lead to greater efficiency for taxiing aircraft.

Once operational, the new Dock B will permit flexible handling of Schengen and non-Schengen flights at up to nine docking bays. The new Dock has gates on two levels. The gates are equipped with self-boarding turnstiles that allow passengers to board the plane independently. The waiting room for non-Schengen passengers is on Level G0, while the waiting room for Schengen passengers is located on Level G1. Eight non-Schengen bus gates are being built in the rear section of the Dock.

An attractive observation deck with views of the apron is still planned for the top of the building. The bus tours of the airport and other services will also be updated. The new Dock B will be operational as of 1 December 2011.
