23.03.2011 Flughafen Zürich AG closes 2010 with a net profit of CHF 138.5 million (down 27.3% from the 2009 figure of CHF 190.6 million). The positive effect of the partial sale of shareholdings in India, which contributed about CHF 75 million to 2009 net profit, no longer affected 2010. After exclusion of the one-time India effect in 2009, profit in 2010 is 20.6% higher than in the previous year.

10.03.2011 Zurich Airport is the first airport in Switzerland to introduce a satellite-based approach procedure. Appropriately equipped airplanes can now approach runway 14 using GPS technology. The flight paths do not change as a result. Flughafen Zürich AG, a member of the European SESAR research project, is an international leader in the development and introduction of new flight procedures and intends to collect empirical data on satellite-based approaches. The project is part of the “Chips” programme, which serves as an idea platform for innovative flight procedures in Switzerland.

24.02.2011 Construction workers, contractors, project managers and airport employees celebrate the topping out of Dock B at Zurich Airport. The new Dock B, which has two levels, will make it possible to process Schengen and non-Schengen passengers simultaneously. The structure will be commissioned on 1 December 2011.

03.02.2011 Flughafen Zürich AG launches an approximately six-month long test series for an automated baggage check-in system. The test series is expected to run until the end of July 2011 and will provide information about the new system’s practical functionality and customer acceptance.

14.02.2011 Zurich Airport once again receives the Business Traveller Award for best transfer airport in Europe. Zurich Airport ranks second in the “best airport in the world” category.

07.01.2011 Despite the volcanic eruption and challenging early winter weather, Zurich Airport reports a record 22.9 million passengers in 2010. The previous record was set ten years ago. The increase was due primarily to strong local traffic, while transfer traffic declined.

22.12.2010 The decision of the Federal Supreme Court confirms the legal validity of Zurich Airport’s operating regulations. They were originally submitted to the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) by Flughafen Zürich AG on 31 December 2003 as provisional operating regulations. Objections to these regulations were raised by various parties. The ruling by the Federal Supreme Court puts current flight operations on a solid legal basis with clearly defined approach and take-off routes.

01.12.2010 Flughafen Zürich AG, in cooperation with the Zurich cantonal police, begins using automated border control systems on a pilot basis.

11.11.2010 Flughafen Zürich AG’s climate protection programme receives high-level accreditation. The certificate is awarded by Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE) in conjunction with the European accreditation system. The Airport Carbon Accreditation initiative launched in 2009 is the first and only international climate programme for airports and comprises a total of four requirement levels. Flughafen Zürich AG meets all conditions for the second highest level.

07.10.2010 For the seventh year in a row, Zurich Airport has received the prestigious World Travel Award for user-friendliness and consistently high quality standards. The criteria that won it this rating included the reach of its sales efforts in the tourist industry, the airport's user-friendliness, and the consistently high quality of its products and services. In its category, Zurich Airport came in ahead of eleven other airports that had been nominated.

29.09.2010 AEROPORTO 2010, a large-scale military exercise, comes to an end. The goal of the three-week exercise, which involved approximately 5,000 members of the Swiss Armed Forces, was to set up a military protection structure at Zurich Airport. The field exercise was successful and had no impact on civilian flight operations.

22.09.2010 Solar Impulse, a solar aircraft, landed today for the first time at Zurich Airport. It was the first landing of a solar-powered airplane at the airport. The goal of the flight was to practise cooperation with international airports and to navigate the solar-powered plane safely through congested air spaces.

18.08.2010 Despite the suspension of air traffic for several days due to the eruption of the volcano in Iceland, Flughafen Zürich AG posts a positive result of CHF 49.7 million for the first half of the year (a 5.3% increase over the 2009 figure).

29.07.2010 The ban on night flights at Zurich Airport is extended. The night-time curfew is now in effect from 11:30 p.m., including a half-hour allowance for delays, until 6:00 a.m. the next morning. The extension was requested by Flughafen Zürich AG itself in order to meet nearby residents’ need for rest.

14.07.2010 A security scanner test series underway since 8 June is completed.  Around 4,800 passengers and airport staff were checked by a security scanner during the test phase. The security scanner check was voluntary for all passengers and employees, and a conventional security check was available at all times. The tests were successful, and traveller acceptance was high.

17.04.2010 - 20.04.2010 As a result of the volcanic eruption in Iceland, Swiss air space remains closed from 12:00 a.m. Saturday to 8:00 a.m. Tuesday. Zurich Airport suspends flight operations. The passengers affected are provided with blankets, sleeping bags, toiletries, food and beverages. Around 3,000 flights have to be cancelled during the suspension of air traffic.

19.03.2010 The Federal Office of Civil Aviation certifies Zurich Airport for the Airbus A380. This means that the largest passenger plane in the world can now make regular airline flights to and from Zurich. Singapore Airlines will begin daily flights with the Airbus A380 from Zurich to Singapore on 28 March.

19.03.2010 Flughafen Zürich AG closes 2009 with a net profit of CHF 190.6 million (up 57% from the 2008 figure of CHF 121.3 million). The positive effect brought about by the partial sale of the company’s shareholdings in India contributed around CHF 75 million to this excellent result.

12.03.2010 Flughafen Zürich AG approves a new climate protection strategy. The goal is to gradually reduce CO2 emissions. The target is to reduce CO2 emissions at Zurich Airport by 15,000 tonnes to a total of 20,000 tonnes by 2030.

11.02.2010 After a year-long international architectural competition for “The Circle”, the prize-winning project is announced. The Japanese architectural firm Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop has prevailed against more than 90 distinguished entries from twelve countries. In the next phase, the submitted design will be further developed in conjunction with a preliminary study in order to meet the owner’s clearly defined needs.

18.01.2010 Zurich Airport once again receives the Business Traveller Award as the best transfer airport in Europe. In the “best airport in the world category” Zurich Airport moves up to second place ahead of Dubai, which places third. Singapore Changi Airport tops the list.

20.01.2010 The public event called “Welcome A380” is a complete success. Following the landing of the Airbus A380 at 8:21 a.m., 22,143 airplane enthusiasts viewed the giant bird up close. Various tests were conducted on the ground before the plane took off again on 21 January.
