Volcanic eruption in Iceland: Update Tuesday, 09:45 CEST

The air space above Switzerland has been re-opened on Tuesday, 08:00 CEST. However, several flights had to be cancelled.

Therefore, passengers are advised to only come to the airport if they already have a confirmed flight ticket.

The Federal Office of Civil Aviation has re-opened the air space above Switzerland on Tuesday, 08:00 CEST. The first flight was Belair Airlines 2098 at 08:03 CEST on runway 34 with destination Sharm-El-Sheikh. The first landing was at 09:04 CEST on runway 14 with flight Cirrus Airlines 1680 from Dresden.

The normalization process of flight operations has started. It will prospectively take days until the regular flight plan is restored. Due to the extraordinary situation in European air traffic, there may be sporadic flight movements throughout the night ban.

The expedient and efficient re-installation of flight operations now holds the highest priority. Therefore, passengers are advised to only come to the airport if they already have a confirmed flight ticket. All other passengers are advised to not come to the airport yet and contact their airline or travel agent for further information.

Temporary regulations for cargo

The cargo area will remain open at Zurich Airport. However, a ban on certain cargo goods will apply until Thursday. Among these cargo goods are dangerous goods, perishables, human remains (coffins), live animals and fresh produce. These items will currently not be accepted at the cargo station at Zurich Airport.

The viewing terrace on Dock E will remain closed on Tuesday.

Notice regarding cancellations: As of now, 315 flights had to be cancelled. This number might rise as the day proceeds.
