Volcanic eruption in Iceland: Update Saturday, 9:00 CEST
The air space above Switzerland has been closed since midnight and is scheduled to re-open at 20:00 CEST. All air traffic at Zurich Airport has been suspended.
The Federal Office of Civil Aviation prolonged the air space closure above Switzerland until prospectively Saturday, 20:00 CEST. As a result, air traffic to and from Zurich Airport remains to and from Zurich Airport suspended. Until now 488 flights had to be canceled.
On Friday, there were 373 cancelled flights and several 10’000 passengers affected. Passengers who spent the night at Zurich Airport were provided with sleeping bags, blankets, toiletries food and beverages.
The air space above Switzerland is scheduled to re-open on Saturday at 20:00 CEST. Until then, passengers with flights during that time are advised not to come to the airport and contact their respective airline for further information on their flights.
