Volcanic eruption in Iceland: Update Saturday, 05:30 CEST

The air space above Switzerland has been closed since midnight and is scheduled to re-open at 14:00 CEST.

All air traffic at Zurich Airport has been suspended. On Friday 373 flights were cancelled.

Due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation has closed the air space above Switzerland until prospectively Saturday, 14:00 CEST. The last flight left Zurich at 21:28 CEST. As a result, air traffic to and from Zurich Airport was suspended. On Friday, there were 373 cancelled flights and several 10'000 passengers affected by these cancellations. Passengers at Zurich Airport were provided with sleeping bags, blankets, food and beverages.

The air space above Switzerland is scheduled to re-open on Saturday at 14:00 CEST. Until then, passengers with flights during that time are advised not to come to the airport and contact their respective airline for further information on their flights.
