Unique News Flash No. 2 / Architectural contest "The Circle" completed

The well established Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto is the winner of the architectural contest of “The Circle”. With “The Circle” Zurich Airport considers a premium real estate complex for innovative services within walking distance to the terminals.

After the international architectural contest on “The Circle” the winning project is defined. The Japanese architect's office Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop won out of 90 high-calibre candidates from 12 countries. Therewith the architectural contest is terminated. In a next phase the winning concept continues to be developed in the context of a preparatory study in order to fit all defined requirements of Zurich Airport, especially the requirements regarding profitability, design and functionality.

Swiss Understatement
The project developed by Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop is characterized primarily by Swiss understatement and high atmospheric quality derived from the eloquence of its compact urban format. This enables tenants to present themselves with their own address in a large building complex. Furthermore the project allows high flexibility in respect to the life cycle of the buildings.

Public exhibition
The projects of the 15 selected architects' are shown publicly at Zurich Airport daily between 12.00h and 19.00h. On exhibition are also the four other finalists:
- Asymptote Architecture (USA)
- Dürig AG (Schweiz)
- Xaveer De Geyter (Belgien)
- Zaha Hadid Architects (United Kingdom)
