Unique News Flash No. 8 / Zurich Airport extends travel retail contracts with strategic commercial partners

Zurich Airport has extended existing travel retail contracts with strategic commercial partners for another seven years with an option of further two years. The extension of these contracts goes in line with the partnership approach which has been a part of the strategy since eight years. In the next two years most other contracts will be re-negotiated and in some cases new concepts and retail partners will be selected. Zurich Airport is looking back on a very successful cooperation over the past years, which has resulted in a considerable upgrading of the airports retail activities. Temporary downturns, like the previous economic crisis, could with this partnership approach be well managed.
The Nuance Group AG will continue to operate the Tax & Duty Free Stores and a number of specialist shop concepts as well as the upcoming Arrival Tax &Duty Free business, provided the amended laws will be approved by the parliament. Parallel to a major construction phase, containing the centralized security control building and the new Pier B, The Nuance Group will re-design and enlarge the existing Tax &Duty Free Stores and convert them into a walk-through concept. In the same time two Arrival Tax &Duty Free Stores (each roughly 800 - 1'000 m2 large) will be built and ready to open as soon as legislation changes are done. Several specialist shop concepts will be face-lifted.
HMS Host will operate most of the food & beverage offer at landside, with few exceptions. In order to meet expected growing passenger figures as well as increasing numbers of „non-flying consumers“ (e.g. staff, shoppers, visitors, meeters &greeters) the food &beverage offer will be enlarged and re-designed. New concepts as well as face-liftings will be developed and implemented between 2010 and 2012.
SSP Select Service Partners will continue to operate a major part of the food & beverage offer at airside, catering not only to travelers but also airport staff. Most of the existing units will be face-lifted, some of them with a new offer, others will change identity and be con-verted into new concepts. New Pier B (under construction) will also contain two attractive units.
