Zurich Airport News Flash No. 1 / Legally binding operating regulations for Zurich Airport

After seven years, Zurich Airport has legally binding operating regulations with defined routes for departure and arrival. With this, today’s air traffic is based on legally solid ground.

With the final judgement of the Swiss Federal Court of December 22nd, 2010, Zurich Airport now has legally binding operating regulations. These were presented by Flughafen Zürich AG as provisional operating regulations to the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) on December 31st, 2003. Notice of objection against them was given by numerous sides. With the final judgement of the Swiss Federal Court, today’s air traffic is now based on legally solid ground with defined routes for departure and arrival.

The judgement, which allows take offs from runway 28 and 16 between 21h00 and 22h00 CET in case of fog, is positive for Zurich Airport. This enables efficient operation of air traffic and supports the reduction of delays. However, Flughafen Zürich AG is obliged to present a revised noise charge model within nine months. The consultation procedure for the first step of the already announced revision of Zurich Airport’s noise charge model is currently pending with the FOCA. This revision of the noise charge model affects the noisiest types of aircrafts of the current noise charge model and is planned to be implemented in April 2011. A comprehensive revision was planned for the year 2013. This revision will contain incentives for the use of aircrafts which are less noisy during sensitive times. Flughafen Zürich AG will start the corresponding work immediately.
