Mini-airfield with new play equipment
Five new pieces of play equipment on observation deck B offer children more fun and adventure.
Over one million people have visited the new observation deck B in its three or so years of operation. A mini-airfield for children, flight information points, Airportscopes (multimedia binoculars) and a discovery path on the "fascination of flying" invite the numerous visitors to discover and spend time there. The observation walkway allows airport fans to get closer to flight operations than at any other airport in the world. Another reason why Zurich Airport, with its two observation decks B and E is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Switzerland.
"It is important for the attractiveness of observation deck B that we add innovations from time to time, especially to cater to the needs of our smallest visitors", Oliver Müller, Events and Promotions Manager of the observation decks, explains the recipe for success. Last year, three new information points and eight new glass panels were installed on the observation deck. "And in August this year we published a new children's painting book 'Mit Anna und Tobi am Flughafen Zürich'", he says.
Since 10 November 2014, five new pieces of playground equipment have proved a hit with kids on the mini-airfield. Within the limited possibilities for optimisation, a "parachute see-saw", an "engine roundabout" and a "bouncing area" with three trampolines were installed on the children's playground.
"These refurbishments were necessary as the mini-airfield is frequently full to capacity on peak days, and children had to wait a long time to use the play equipment. By expanding the playground we boosted the attractiveness of this unique feature", says Oliver Müller. In addition, the new acquisitions will draw more customers to Zurich Airport as a meeting place and provide the youngest airport visitors with more fun and games. Two new partners – SPHAIR and Pratt & Whitney – were recruited with the new play equipment.
