SWISS soon to fly the Bombardier CS100

On 15 July 2016, SWISS will be the first airline in the world to commence operation of the Bombardier CS100.

Delivery of the first Bombardier CS100 aircraft to SWISS will take place as planned on 1 July 2016. Friday, 15 July 2016 is the big day: at 12:30 p.m., the first commercial SWISS flight with a CS100 – LX638 from Zurich to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport – will take off. Following the successful fleet introduction of the Boeing 777-300ER, the start of flight operations with this innovative Bombardier aircraft marks a further milestone in the history of SWISS. Among the first cities served by SWISS with a CS100 are Manchester, Prague and Budapest in addition to Paris Charles de Gaulle.

The European capitals Warsaw and Brussels will be added to the C series’ route network at the end of August 2016, with Nice, Stuttgart, Hanover, Milan, Florence and Bucharest following in September. With every new CS100 that is delivered, other destinations currently served by Avro aircraft will be converted successively to the C Series. For instance, flights from Zurich to London City with the C Series are planned for the first quarter of 2017.

Noise emissions cut by 50%, 150 new jobs
SWISS is the launch operator for the C Series, a short- and medium-haul aircraft type newly developed by Bombardier from the ground up. Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies in their engines, systems and materials, Bombardier C Series aircraft set new standards in comfort, cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. The new aircraft is only around half as loud for human ears as comparable aircraft, and its fuel consumption can be reduced by up to a quarter. CO2 emissions are reduced by around 90,000 tonnes per year. Moreover, by adding the Bombardier C Series to its European fleet, SWISS is creating approximately 150 new jobs for cabin crew.
