Main construction work starts on additional access taxiway for runway 16
The preliminary work on an additional, multiple-entry access taxiway for runway 16 took place at the northern end of the runway between mid-October and mid-December 2017. The main construction work, which is scheduled to last around seven months, will start after Easter.
An additional, 200-metre access taxiway is being built for runway 16 at Zurich Airport. The new taxiway will optimise the process of lining up aircraft for take-off and improve punctuality. The preliminary work took place between mid-October and mid-December 2017. The main work will begin during the night of 3–4 April 2018, and will involve demolition work, the installation of service systems, concreting and asphalting. It will last around seven months and is likely to be completed by mid-October 2018. As the work will be carried out within protected areas that cannot be accessed during airport operating hours, night-time working will be unavoidable. Flughafen Zürich AG is implementing a series of measures to minimise noise emissions from the site at night.
