WEF – many guests from business and political circles arrive via Zurich Airport
The annual World Economic Forum (WEF) will be held in Davos from 22-25 January 2019. During this time, additional flight movements are expected at Zurich Airport and are likely to be at a similar level to previous years.
This year’s World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos will commence on Tuesday, 22 January 2019 and will run until Friday, 25 January 2019. Over these four days, a number of well-known people from business and political circles from around the world are expected, and many of them will arrive at Zurich Airport. Additional flight movements are therefore expected as of the beginning of next week. These comprise small business jets as well as large and small government aircraft and various helicopter flights. Overall, the additional take-offs and landings during the WEF week will be on a par with recent years. In 2018 Zurich Airport handled around 130 additional flight movements daily compared with an average day.
Limited number of stands
For delegations that have already registered, reserved stands are available and can be allocated in accordance with the aircraft size. The aircraft of other WEF visitors will be given time slots of max. two hours for loading and unloading again this year. They must then leave Zurich Airport and travel to an airport of their choice. A number of aircraft will fly directly to Dübendorf Airport this year too. Direct flight handling will be possible there, as in recent years. However, this is hardly likely to affect the additional flights at Zurich Airport. The increased helicopter flights and noise emissions will be inevitable in the days before, during and after the WEF.
Observation deck B open longer hours
For plane spotters and other interested persons, the regular visitor services at and near Zurich Airport will be available – such as the spotter point at the “Heligrill” on the western side of the airport or the observation deck B. The latter will be open during longer hours, from Monday, 21 January 2019 until Saturday, 26 January 2019, daily from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. (instead of 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.).
