Zone West is the largest remaining aviation development area for hangars and apron space at Zurich Airport. The plan is to create an apron for flexible use, bordered to the south and west by development zones for buildings.
ZONE A – Baggage sorting system (GSA)
The baggage sorting system is a central infrastructure for passenger handling at Zurich Airport. The system is being comprehensively renewed and expanded as, among other things, key parts will soon reach the end of their useful life.
Expansion of landside passenger zones
In order to serve the needs of the steadily growing numbers of passengers and commuters in the landside Airport Center in future, Flughafen Zürich AG intends to radically upgrade the northern part of the Airport Center.
The expansion of the landside passenger areas will create adequate space for the growing number of people and eliminate existing bottlenecks.
Glatt regeneration project (Tolwäng to Fromatt section)
Ecologically valuable habitats, local recreation and flood control: the regeneration of the Glatt on the western side of the airport presents big opportunities.
Between July 2012 and July 2014, the Canton of Zurich drafted the "Glatt Area Landscape Development Rümlang/Oberglatt". In the spring of 2017, Flughafen Zürich AG returned to the planning work again, which had been put on hold, with the consent and involvement of the canton.
