Construction of further parking facilities
Flughafen Zürich AG plans to build more parking facilities at the airport. Thus creating the facilities required to handle the expected increase in passengers over the next 10 years on the land side too.Demand for passenger parking spaces is greatest at the main airport complex. The main priorities are short distances and easy access to the check-in areas.
The same applies to parking spaces for flight crews. Their workstations for flight preparations are located in the Operation Center, adjacent to car park 6.
The project involves extending all levels of the existing 12-storey car park 6 in an easterly direction. The south-facing facade will adopt the external appearance of the existing car park, with the continuous façade design creating the impression of a unified complex.
This complex will be accessed via the existing entrance to floor 3 on the west side of car park 6. Vehicles will leave the car park complex via a shared exit bridge on floor 4 as well as an exit to the south on floor 1.
Structurally, the extension takes the form of a composite steelwork/concrete assembly and is physically independent of the car park 6 building. The column grid in car park 7 will be optimised to enable the potential use of the base.
