Stands Delta South
Due to their proximity to the existing infrastructure, the new Delta South aircraft stands are intended to cover demand for aircraft handling stands for European traffic, thereby optimising operational flows and ensuring rapid transfer times at Zurich Airport.
The “Delta South stands” project involves constructing a total of ten stands for handling code C aircraft (e.g. European fleets of Bombardier C series, A320 and B737 aircraft). All the stands will be equipped with an aircraft power supply. The Echo taxiway will be extended southwards to connect to the stands, with only code C aircraft being able to use the extended taxiway due to its width. The new taxiway will be equipped with centreline lighting powered by a new transformer station. The main work for the new stands will take place west of Hangar 3.
The landside parking area displaced by the new Golf stands will be relocated to the north-west of the existing landside car park P65 (opposite the Runway 34 restaurant). The existing number of parking spaces will be replaced on a 1:1 basis. Two replacement locations will be set up for the displaced southerly snow depot. These will be the “Prison” snow depot (to the east of the prison) and the “Southerly” snow depot (near the southern construction logistics area). In addition, retention filter basin 4 (north of runway 28), which was created as part of the 2010-2015 GEP implementation, will have to be enlarged by around 2,300m2. This will mean that rainwater falling on the newly paved “Delta South” area can also be treated in line with statutory requirements.
Work started on the Delta South stands at the beginning of March 2017. All compensatory measures (parking spaces, snow depots and retention filter basin) were commissioned by October 2017.
